Cheetah Cubs Born at Garden Route Game Lodge
In the early hours of Friday morning, 30 March 2012, the Female Cheetah (Inyanga) at the Garden Route Game Lodge gave birth to her first litter of 4 cubs. She could not have chosen more challenging conditions as the rain poured down and temperatures dropped to 12 Degrees. The rangers and wildlife staff at the reserve were extremely concerned for the well being of the newborn cubs. Fortunately the sun came out the next morning which allowed the lodge to get a peak at at the new arrivals.
The cheetah at the Garden Route Game Lodge are fitted with tracking collars enabling the rangers to track them in the wild. The Garden Route Game Lodge Reserve Manager Hein Schoeman first became suspicious when the GPS reading from the collar showed that she was staying in one area for extended periods of time and not utilising the entire game reserve for hunting. The Garden Route Game Lodge Cheetah’s made conservation history in September 2007 being the first cheetahs to return to the area in 120 Years. 5 Years later they have been rewarded with their first litter of cubs.
