Introducing South Beach

Durban's famed Golden Mile stretches 6 km from the neon-lit Suncoast Hotel & Casino in the north to the exciting uShaka Marine World in the south.  The South Beach of Durban is popular with holiday makers because of its favourable surf conditions, warm water temperatures and ideal setting.

A variety of trendy restaurants and bars line the beach and offer up the ideal spot to enjoy a sundowner cocktail or light meal.

The South Beach of the Golden Mile in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, stretches to the Point from the junction of West street and Marine Parade.  Durban's popular South Beach follows along the Marine Parade and the Erskine Terrace. Entertainment, including playgrounds, trampolines and bike hire are located on South Beach. Alongside the beach is a promenade upon which visitors can enjoy a walk and a touch of shopping or even enjoy a Zulu rickshaw ride. Compared to the nearby North Beach there are fewer large scale hotels along the Marine Parade along South Beach.

Durban's uShaka Marine World which is also situated in the South Beach area is one of Durban's newest attractions and features massive aquariums displaying fish and marine life from all over the world as well as a Wet n' Wild Waterpark with eight water rides.  The uShaka Marine World is a relatively short walk from the Golden Mile and opens right onto the beach.
