Introducing Luapula
The Luapula Province is one of Zambia's nine provinces, Southern Africa. The Luapula Province is situated in the north of Zambia with the provincial capital called Mansa. The Zambian Luapula Province was named after the Luapula River.
The Luapula Province, Zambia, extends along the northern and eastern banks of the Luapula river from Lake Bangweulu to Lake Mweru. This province in Zambia is inhabited by Bemba-speaking peoples which include the Lunda, Kabende, Aushi, Chishinga and Bemba.
The major economic activity in the Luapula Province is fishing. The main road of this province is the Samfya-Mansa-Mwansabombwe-Nchelenge highway which used to be called the Zambia Way.
In the 19th century the valley was dominated by the Lunda kingdom of Mwata Kazembe. The Luapula Province is bordered along the Luapula River, through Lake Mweru and to its north by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
