Overview
Vygekraal is a private villa in a private nature reserve with its own private coastline- yet it is only a few minutes' drive from Plettenberg Bay, its fine restaurants, sophisticated shops and wonderful beaches.
In the early 1960's a wonderfully eccentric stone castle was built on a wild and dramatic sea cliff. It is situated on one of the most beautiful private properties in South Africa near the Robberg in Plettenberg Bay. The villa was constructed stone by stone from rocks carried from the surrounding cliffs.
The entire villa is available for the exclusive use of a maximum group of ten guests. There are four double suites, all with stunning views. It also has a bedroom with two single beds and a separate bathroom.
The Vygekraal Villa in Plettenberg Bay is let on a staffed, optionally full catering basis. Breakfast is included. The full catering can be supplied by arrangement.
It is decorated in a very casual, comfortable and relaxed way. Cushions are laid out every day on the palisade cliff top terraces, so you can sunbathe listening to the waves breaking below.

Simple, healthy and delicious cooking is provided by the estat's fully trained cook. His specialties are fresh fish and seafood served with local vegetables. Herbs and salad are from the villa's own vegetable garden, pizza and Portuguese chicken are roasted in their own wood fired pizza oven.
Barbecues done on the outdoor grill is another favourite. The chef is also a specialist in vegetarian and low fat cooking. Guest are welcome to discuss the menus with him and choose what they would like to eat.

Vygekraal is protected within a private estate, with kilometres of its own coastline. This nature reserve is covered with coastal Fynbos, the Cape's unique floral kingdom. There are six times as many varieties of flowering plant in the Fynbos ecosystem as in the whole of the British Isles. Hiking on the estate is wonderful, and there is a wide choice ranging from gentle trails to more adventurous trails.

Whales, dolphins and seals can be spotted in the sea directly beneath the Vygekraal Villa's terraces or living room windows.
A family of sea otters lives in the dam alongside Vygekraal. Dassies, a type of large rabbit related - strangely enough - to elephants, dart among the rocks. Baboons visit the estate from time to time, but they are shy of humans. The estate is famous for its birds, particularly kestrels, brilliantly coloured nectar feeders and common sea birds.

Vygekraal's Villa in Plettenberg Bay, which is located in Plettenberg Bay along South Africa's magnificent Garden Route, is built above a vast coastal cave which was inhabited by Stone Age man for millennia. Access to the coastline below the villa's cliff is through this cave, an adventure in itself. There is a collection of fascinating artifacts from the cave on display in one of the bedrooms in the villa.
