Introducing Tzaneen

The small town of Tzaneen is located in the Mopani district of the Limpopo Province of South Africa.  This region of South Africa is very fertile with tropical and subtropical agriculture. About 800 000 people reside within a 30km radius of Tzaneen, with the town itself holding a population of around 30,000.  Different theories exist in regards to the origin of the name 'Tzaneen' ranging from the Sotho words 'tsaneng' which means 'gathering place' to 'tsana' which can be translated as 'basket of hills'.
The distance from Tzaneen to Johannesburg is approximately 420km.  Tourist attractions in the town of Tzaneen include: the Tzaneen Dam, Magoebaskloof, Haenertsburg, and the Pekoe View Tea Estate.  Tzaneen is located in close proximity to several game reserves.  This town in the Limpopo Province therefore serves as a thoroughfare for tourists on their way to other tourist destinations in the province.
