Introducing Abuja

Introducing Abuja

Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria. The city itself is surrounded by small satellite towns, due to the large influx of westerners to the Capital in recent years. The city was chosen as the capital of the country as it is considered a place of neutrality with regards to ethnicity and religion.

Abuja’ geography is defined by the two renowned rock formations that surround the area. The Zuma Rock is a large monolith located just to the north of the city while the Aso Rock can be found closer to the city and rises a massive 400 meters above sea level. A variety of beautiful mosques can be found within Abuja.

The city itself is known as being one of the best purpose-built cities in Africa and is abundant with wealth however the surrounding areas are significantly more rural.

The skyline consists of mid-range buildings and very few sky scrapers can be found. As it is a relatively new city, the architecture is contemporary. A number of universities and schools can be found in the city as well as the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport.
