This Lodge is surrounded by the Ocean and is situated near one of Africa’s largest mangrove forests.  With its magnificent floral kingdom, this is an island ideal for watching birds. The diving spots found around this Island provide shallow areas for the casual diver and dramatic drops for the more experienced divers. Magnificent underwater landscapes, beautiful rainbow marine fish combined with the gentle warm currents make scuba diving a world in its own right.

Ibo Beach Excursion - Ilhas Quirimbas

One of the nicest beaches in the Quirimbas Archipelago can be accessed from Ibo Island, one of the islands best kept secrets.  The time of the transfer depends on tides, weather and other activities planned each day.  Turtles and dolphins are regularly seen from the boat along the way.

The resort features four Garden Rooms, namely Juwa (sun), Brubuletta (butterfly) Tataruga (turtle) and Makonde (The Makonde tribe is famous for their wood carvings).  Situated in the garden, these rooms feature twin beds as well as air conditioning. The spacious verandas offer comfortable chairs from where the sunshine and the bird life can be enjoyed to the fullest. The Niassa dip pool lies only a few steps away.  

These rooms are especially liked by are groups of friends, families traveling with children as well as honeymooners.  The Brubuletta Garden Room is ideal for an unforgettable beach island honeymoon with its unique coral outside shower, its king size 4 poster bed as well as its  welcoming day bed on the wide veranda.

The rooms have king size 4 poster king size carved bed which is draped in romantic mosquito netting. The high ceilings have teak beams. The rooms have air conditioning and ceiling fans which cool the rooms on hot summer nights. The wide veranda offers comfortable plantation chairs with stylish cushions.  This rooms have great sea views. At low tide, guests are welcome to walk out onto the sand banks among the flamingos.

  • Niassa Mansion: Both rooms located at the Niassa Mansion and they great rooms for honeymooners.
  • Bela Vista Mansion: Ngalawa is in the Bela Vista Mansion, it has a large veranda and it is close to the lodge.

Both of the island resort's historical rooms share the shady back veranda which looks the gardens, palm trees and onto the small dip swimming pool which is perfect for cooling off during the warm afternoons.

Kixewa Room

This room is one of two historical rooms which overlook the garden and offers a king size bed with a mosquito net cover. This room type also offers a small lounge, which can accommodate up to two small children in an inter-leading room.

Luwa Room

The largest and most popular room, namely Luwa, is equipped with a beautiful carved 4 poster king size bed as well as an Indian trunk to store valuables. It features a lounge area and a hand crafted mahogany cupboard. Its en-suite bathroom has a large marble shower, twin basins as well as an outside shower.

Directions

There are daily flights from the OR Tambo Johannesburg International Airport (South Africa) to Vilanculos International Airport which connect well with the major international flights to Europe.

The flying time from Johannesburg is 2 hours on a 42 seat ATR aircraft. On Tuesdays and Fridays these flights collect passengers from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), with an onward flying time of just 1 hour. This facilitates an effortless beach and bush experience.

There are also regular flights on Travelmax from Lanseria northern Johannesburg, LAM from OR Tambo, Lanseria and Maputo, and on Swazi Airlines connecting with Matsapha and Durban. Visas are available on arrival. Airport taxes are charged at the airport, US Dollars, South African Rands and Meticals are accepted.
