Whale Season Is Here
From July through November, Southern Right Whales arrive from the Antarctic to mate, calve and raise their young in the warmer, protected waters of the Western Cape. The peak viewing period is generally August to October, when hundreds of whales can gather in the bay directly in front of the lodge.
And this is what makes Lekkerwater so special: there is no boat required. From the lodge, private decks and the surrounding dunes, guests can watch whales breaching, blowing, rolling and playing remarkably close to shore. De Hoop is regarded as one of the world’s finest land-based whale-watching destinations.
