Activities
The Bazaruto Marine National Park in Mozambique which is located around Indigo Bay offers some of the finest and most unexplored diving in the world with untouched coral reefs and an astounding diversity of marine species.
A dazzling array of fish, from Moray Eels and Stingrays to Barracuda, Kingfish and other pelagic gamefish can be spotted whilst diving here in tropical waters that seldom drop below 26 degrees.
Indigo Bay provides the perfect launch pad from which to experience some of the most exciting game fish to be found in the world. Legendary species such as Giant Black Marlin, Sailfish and Wahoo frequent the deep Mozambique Channel surrounding the Bazaruto Archipelago and fishing is excellent all year round.
On boat trips offshore, guests may have the unique opportunity to view dolphins and marine turtles, as well as whales and whale sharks at certain times of the year. If you are very lucky you may view the rate dudong ( sea cow ), an endangered sea mammal that sparked early seafarers' tales of mermaids. Boat trips to the nearby deserted Paradise Island ( Santa Carolina ) for picnics and snorkeling can be arranged.
The Indigo Bay Island Resort offers a full range of water sport equipment. Guests looking for action can water-ski in the calm waters off the central beach or opt for fun varients thereof ( such as wake-snakes, wake-boards, knee-boards and doughnuts ). A range of non-motorised water sports, such as kayaking, windsurfing and Hobiecat sailing, is also on offer.
One of Bazaruto Island's features are the spectacular high sand dunes, which make for exhilerating dune boarding for the entire family. The boards require very little skill to master and can be easily handles by children as well as adults. Whizzing down a sand dune with the azure Indina Ocean around you, is one of our more thrilling experiences.
Indigo Bay's hardy and carefully selected Boerperds cater for novices and advanced riders alike. Set out in the early morning or late afternoon to explore the forest and dunes on the island, or select a breathtaking beach ride where you can canter along beatuful white sandy shores and even swim in the waves if you choose.
