The five star Fordoun Hotel & Spa is situated in the green pastures of a Nottingham Road dairy farm, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands near Pietermaritzburg which has a history dating back to the 1800s. The original farm buildings have been adapted into the atmospheric and gracious Fordoun Spa, Hotel and Restaurant, in a fusing of state-of-the-art leisure and spa facilities with the timeless tranquillity of by-gone days.

The Fordoun Hotel & Spa combines the attractions of an award winning upmarket boutique hotel and spa with a top class conference, wedding and event destination and a superior restaurant. The Fordoun Boutique Hotel caters for resident guests of the hotel as well as day visitors during the week at the Spa. The Skye restaurant is open to the guests through out the week and weekend.

The luxurious Fordoun Hotel & Spa comprises seventeen luxurious, individually appointed double suites with private verandas, underfloor heating and dream bathrooms, each with bath and shower, and a dressing area. Each room at the Fordoun Hotel & Spa has its own television, and tea/coffee-making facilities. There is also a double suite with wheelchair access and specially adapted bathroom. Despite its luxurious atmosphere, and emphasis on quality, Fordoun’s rates are surprisingly competitive in relation to similar hydros elsewhere.

Activities

The Fordoun boutique hotel is located in the rolling grasslands of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, where the air is crystal-clear and smog and traffic are echoes of another lifestyle. Guests can enjoy gentle walks around the grounds, visit the herb garden of Dr Ndlovu, or ride on mountain bikes along designated routes through the Fordoun estate. Fly-fishing is available on three still waters on Fordoun, or, in season, in the pristine waters of the nearby Bushman’s or Mooi River. Golf is available at the magnificent Bosch Hoek course or the new Gowrie course which are both a few minutes away.

Under his guidance, a number of products have been carefully created from indigenous traditional healing plants, especially for Fordoun. The range includes soaps, shower gels, massage oils, bath salts, creams and sprays, based on the theme of the seven Chakras and the seven colours of the rainbow. A luxury Eau de Toilette range, Ma’Ndlovu for women and BabaNdlovu for men, has been designed for both the local and export markets.

Fordoun also make use of Elemis an exclusive up market international beauty treatment range. Which we feel works well with the Ndlovu range and compliments our natural , South African range, Africology.

Restaurant at the Fordoun Hotel & Spa

The Skye Bistro is a fine dinning restaurant set in the heart of the exquisite Kwa-Zulu-Natal midlands. From beautiful log burning fires in the winter evenings to watching the sun set from the veranda over the rolling lawns of Fordoun; Skye Bistro is the perfect place to have a relaxing sumptuous meal. From farm style breakfasts, lighter café style lunches to delicious dinners, Skye bistro captures the leisure of a bygone era. For the more health conscious to those seeking more decadent treats, we cater to all needs.

At Skye Bistro only the freshest, mostly local produce are available. The chef and his team take great pride in preparing all meals with care and attention to detail. Wine connoisseurs should be rather pleased with the private wine collection of over 63 local estate wines, sparkling wines and French champagnes all personally selected by owner Jon Bates.  The Skye Bistro is open seven days a week for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Conference Centre at Fordoun

The conference centre at the Fordoun Hotel & Spa near Pietermaritzburg caters for up to forty business delegates, with quality equipment on hand and all the resources and facilities of the spa and restaurant nearby. The spacious, high-ceilinged main conference room lends itself to use for numerous other events and functions.

Directions to the Fordoun Hotel & Spa

Directions from Johannesburg to Fordoun:

• Take the N3 Highway south from Johannesburg heading towards Durban.
• Approximately 15km After the Mooi River Plaza toll gate take the Nottingham Road off-ramp.
• At the stop street turn right heading towards Nottingham Road for about 3km and we are on the right hand side.
• At the entrance to the driveway you will see a large sign on the wall reading: “Fordoun Hotel / Spa / Restaurant”.
• Follow the driveway for 400 metres to the hotel reception.
• (Travelling time approx 4 hours)

Directions from Durban to Fordoun:

• Take N3 from Durban heading towards Johannesburg.
• Take the Nottingham Road Turn Off, which is about 15km before Mooi River Toll Gate
• At stop turn right and head towards Nottingham Road for about 3km and we are on the right hand side.
• At the entrance to the driveway you will see a large sign on the wall reading: “Fordoun Hotel / Spa / Restaurant”.
• Follow drive for 400 meters to hotel reception.
