The Cascades Hotel, the Grotto Restaurant and the swimming pool area underwent an extensive R60-million refurbishment project, transforming the 1980's themed pool area into a tropical paradise. The outdoor swimming pool at the Cascades Hotel and the Grotto Restaurant are an area reminiscent of the azure blue of the tranquil Mediterranean.
   
The original garden area has been transformed into a lake with cascading waterfalls. The pool deck has been extended by about 7 metres and the lawn areas have been converted into a sandy beach complete with a secluded bathing area and sand bar. Guests are also invited to enjoy the heated pool, a Jacuzzi pool and children's pool.

The Grotto restaurant has been revolutionised. The Mediterranean restaurant now named Santorini, is surrounded by glass windows providing an all season enclave, harbouring guests during winter. Alfresco dining takes place along the island promenade and delightful gazebo's offer shaded areas where guests can relax informally and enjoy a delectable meal.

Swimming Pool

The Cascades Hotel has a heated and a cold swimming pool with lifeguards on attendance daily.

The Valley of the Waves Water Park

The Valley of Waves is one of the most advanced water parks in the world, dominated by the Roaring Lagoon, a 6 500-square metre (7560-square yards) wave pool with a palm-fringed beach. Hydraulic mechanisms can generate a 1,8 metre (6 feet 8 inches) wave every 90 seconds. When waves are not generated, a bobbing cycle is generated in a diamond pattern.

The water park has five exhilarating flume rides:
From the aptly named Temple of Courage, swimmers drop a heart-stopping 17 meters (57 feet) down a 70-meter (233 feet) chute, hurtle under a bridge and splash into a small pool at the foot of the slide. The Tarantula and the Scorpion are body slides, and the Viper and the Mamba are flume rides where the swimmers float on large inflated tubes. The Lazy River is a gentle tube ride that flows endlessly round a kidney-shaped island.

Golf Courses: Gary Player Golf Course and Lost City Golf Course

The Sun City Resort is home to 2 world class 18 hole championship golf courses.

The Gary Player Golf Course is an 18 hole, par 72 walking course, with a 5km running trail along the course. The Gary Player Country Club overlooks this magnificent golf course and incorporates a Pro Shop, a Health spa and gymnasium, two squash courts and a spinning studio. At the Health Spa you can indulge in hair and beauty treatments, hydro bath, Vichy Shower, spa-pool and steam room. The fully equipped gym also offers personal trainers.

The Lost City Golf Course was also designed by Gary Player. This par-72 course is a cart course, complete with a state-of-the-art clubhouse, and is a short stroll from The Palace of the Lost City. It features a water hazard of 20 live Nile crocodiles on the 13th hole and offers facilities such as a driving range, and a Golf Pro Shop.

The Santorini Restaurant at the Cascades Hotel

Santorini is a Greek Mediterranean restaurant situated by the swimming pool. The restaurant is divided into 3 sections: the Terrace & Island areas can seat up to 86 people and the main restaurant can seat up to 104 guests. Extra features to the restaurant includes a live pizza station with a classical wood burning oven in which all our pizzas will be baked but also in which the Kleftiko will be done in the traditional Greek way.

Elephant Back Safaris

Guests staying in the Pilanesberg area are invited to join Pilanesberg Elephant Back Safaris on a unique and extraordinary African adventure. Join Chikwenya, Sharu, Sapi, Mana and Michael for a game viewing experience with a difference, on elephant back, as though part of this special herd.

These elephants are all orphans as a result of reduction exercises carried out by the Zimbabwe National Parks Department in the 1980's. Most orphans were sold to Zoo's and Circus's around the world; however these were fortunate enough to stay on African soil and passed their early lives on private game farms. They were soon to outgrow this lifestyle and Wild Horizons in an effort to improve and secure the elephants existing lifestyle, created this amazing safari experience. In 2002, Wild Horizons created Pilanesberg Elephant-Back Safaris. Join Chikwenya and her herd for an amazing safari and at the same time a deeper insight into their lifestyle and history.

The pick up is from the Gametrackers Outdoor Adventures desk located at the Welcome Centre. Transfer to "The Elephant Wallow" will be approximately 20 minutes through the Letsatsing Game Reserve giving guests an opportunity to view game along the way. On arrival, welcome drinks are served and guests are given an introductory talk and introduced to the elephants and their handlers. The elephants are then saddled and the safari commences. After approximately an hour on elephant back guests return to "The Elephant Wallow" for light snacks. Guests are returned to the Welcome Centre, Sun City.

Hot Air Balloon Safaris

The Hot Air Balloon Safaris are offered every morning, depending on the weather and number of passengers. Guests are collected at their hotel and taken through the park to rendezvous with the balloon crew.

The flight is approximately an hour's duration and on landing sparkling wine is served. A leisurely game drive is then taken through the park to a game lodge where breakfast is served, after which guests are returned to their hotel. Flights are early in the morning and you need to allow some 4 hours for the full activity which includes the following:

• Early morning collection from your hotel by safari vehicle.
• Launch of the balloon from the centre of the park.
• An hour drifting serenely over the park.
• A sparkling wine celebration on landing, a time-honoured tradition in ballooning.
• A Full English breakfast at a Private Game Lodge.
• A First Flight certificate signed by your Pilot.
• Return transfer to your hotel.
