Bicycle West Coast Tour Overview
From Cape Town, the group transfers to the Buffelsfontein Game Reserve, a private reserve where guests ride an exclusive cycle route through the wilderness with an armed ranger and back-up vehicle.
They may get up close to a variety of antelope and plains game, including zebra, giraffe, oryx, wildebeest, kudu, eland, springbok and the cheetah and lion enclosures can be visited. Cycling ensures a more intimate experience and allows cyclists to get closer to nature.
After the guided cycle tour, visitors transfer to the West Coast National Park which is a haven of biodiversity in this region of South Africa. Participants enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at the Geelbek Restaurant, a national monument which contains a cast of Eve's footprint, the oldest known footprint of modern man.
The shuttle up to Seeberg viewpoint, from where magnificent views over the Langebaan lagoon can be enjoyed and cycle through the beautiful park, with white sand beaches and shimmering coves leading into the deep blue ocean.
The bird life here is spectacular with flamingos, pelicans, osprey, sandpipers, and many other wetland species. During spring (August - October), the park bursts into a kaleidoscope of colour with fields of flowers and sweet smelling succulents and flora year-round. Mammals which can be encountered here include Eland, Red Hartebeest and Caracal in addition to whale and dolphin viewing in season.
The group finishes their cycle tour with a well-deserved snack and ice-cold beverage before hopping back into the shuttle vehicle for the return trip to Cape Town. This trip can be expanded - 4-day West Coast Cycle - and the Cycle Safari is accompanied by an armed ranger and vehicle.
