These rocks date back 3.5 billion years and their fossils record the first life on the planet as well as the enormous impact of the first ever recorded meteorite collision.

Lying in the Mpumalanga area of the Drakensberg escarpment, the Sudwala Caves are considered the oldest known caves in the world.  The amazingly deep system of caverns is an unfathomable and intricate set of passages and enormous chambers that extend into the enigmatic Mankelexele ridge.

The fossils in the rocks prove the earliest known life forms of oxygen producing plants which date back 2.2 billion years.   Furthermore, a Dinosaur Park, with life-size creatures guarding the entrance, is on site to excite visitors, especially the children.

The Heritage Walk allows for a lovely, slow walk to the Barberton Museum where the lovely old Barberton Locomotive has come to a permanent rest.  The locomotive served the railway line between Barberton and Kaapmuiden from 1899 and wound its way to its final resting place, on its own steam, in 1977.
