Situated in the main Opstal area, near reception, De Hoop Collection’s Fig Tree Restaurant offers day and overnight visitors a welcoming and comfortable setting in which to enjoy local culinary creations.
The establishment of the Fig Tree Restaurant, which is situated in the main Opstal area of the De Hoop Collection, has been steered by the experienced hand of Judi Dyason, best-known for co-founding the world-renowned Prue Leith School of Cooking in South Africa. Dyason also trained the chefs and catering staff at all of The Madikwe Collection’s lodges. With a shaded terrace overlooking the De Hoop Nature Reserve, The Fig Tree Restaurant offers a full a la carte menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
William and Nini Stephens of De Hoop Collection have used their kitchens as training grounds since they first began in hospitality in the Madikwe Game Reserve. Staff don’t need to know how to cook right off the bat, if they have the right attitude and motivation, cooking is something that can be taught, and it’s no different at the Fig Tree Restaurant. Staff from neighbouring Bredasdorp and Elim are encouraged to participate in the culinary skills training at De Hoop Collection to not only better their current skill level, but to ignite a passion for local produce and home cooking.
