Orange River Adventures Overview
Orange River Canoe Trips This adventure is just 190 km from Bloemfontein on the friendly N6 to Aliwal North. Starting near Pofadder in the Northern Cape of South Africa, this section of the river offers a variety of conditions, from flat water to flowing channels, lots of exciting small rapids and a few ‘Big Ones’ to get the adrenaline flowing.
Trapped between the Free State, Eastern Cape, and Transkei, and nestled between mountains, natural creeks, and the Orange River the exciting River Rafting excursions are offered.
Experience 4-5 hours on the Orange River in four-man Rubber ducks. A combination of excitement and relaxation. This is an experience not to be missed, made safe through the use of lifejackets. Getting closer to nature is difficult as you are forced to visit with the fish eagle, buck and baboon, and view some of the most beautiful rock formations.
Have a refreshing swim and enjoy a picnic with your host at the endpoint. The more adventurous can do the day-night trip. You will depart with your guide the first day and spend the evening under the stars on the riverbed next to the hot springs. The next day your journey ends on a nearby game farm.
Breakaway Trails offers the ideal getaway for the individual, family or group at very affordable rates. Enjoy the comfortable accommodations while still getting the outdoor experience, being overwhelmed by countless stars, hearing the fish eagle's call, and seeing a small game like the Mountain Reedbuck, Steenbuck, Springbuck, and Blesbuck in their natural surroundings.
Exploring offers the Orange River with all its' splendour, natural creeks with caves and rock art, and numerous varieties of trees and birdlife. At high water, it becomes an exciting whitewater trip. The 4-day tour also includes abseiling for those keen to give it a try.
We use inflatable two-person boats that are easy to paddle and steer. We also have rafts that are very stable and perfect for less confident paddlers. We cover just over 30kms during the trip, so there is ample time to relax, read your book or explore the camp surroundings.
