Construction began in 2016, led by local firm GJ Architects in collaboration with acclaimed Johannesburg-based architect Peter Rich, best known for his award-winning work on Mapungubwe’s Interpretation Centre. Rich’s influence is most evident in the Earth Grotto Suites, eco-inspired havens built into the Drakensberg escarpment, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

Interior designer Donald Nxumalo has masterfully woven Shangaan influences with sophisticated urban design throughout the hotel.
