The Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in Soweto, Johannesburg, was where South Africa's Freedom Charter was signed and it is this historic location which now defines the place of the Soweto Hotel on Freedom Square. The Hotel on Freedom Square is the first 4-star hotel in Soweto, Johannesburg.
The 1950s was a decade of defiance and bravery in South Africa. A time when the people of South Africa who were being prejudiced against, stood up and vowed to fight the fight for a better future. It was during this decade that the Freedom Charter was written, which still forms the foundation upon which the African National Congress was built.
The unique Soweto Hotel on Freedom Square pays tribute to the heroes and heroines of the freedom struggle. Each room at the hotel features a different aspect of the conflict. The conference venues and suites are each named and decorated in respect of one of the prominent actors during this era. The entire hotel is decorated with fine photography and images. The pictures were taken by the famous local photographer Alf Khumalo and present the fight to bring about change in South Africa. The hotel strives to offer the same warmth, generosity and true hospitality that one would experience in any South African home. In light of the Freedom Charter, this hotel has written its Hotel Charter.
