The Heart of Madiba Heritage

Sanctuary Mandela is based in Nelson Mandela’s former primary residence in the leafy suburb of Houghton in Johannesburg. The location includes elements of the home he lived in after returning from Robben Island, where he welcomed international figures such as Michael Jackson and Oprah Winfrey, and where the Nelson Mandela Foundation later operated.

Sanctuary Mandela is now a re-envisioned space containing nine curated rooms and dedicated retreat areas for reflection, healing and meaningful experiences inspired by the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
