Perfect for families or small groups seeking quality time immersed in nature, the cottage is thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay.

About De Hoop Nature Reserve

Managed by CapeNature, De Hoop spans 34,000 hectares and is one of the largest natural reserves in the region. It’s a haven for hikers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and whale enthusiasts. Adjacent to the reserve, the marine protected area stretches 5 km offshore, safeguarding an incredible diversity of marine life. The reserve’s clear rock pools provide ideal spots for swimming and snorkeling.

De Hoop features one of South Africa’s premier hiking trails: the Whale Trail. This scenic route combines coastal and mountain terrain, offering spectacular views and numerous whale-watching opportunities. Currently, the trail runs over four days due to upgrades at the Noetsie Cottage, but it will return to a five-day itinerary once renovations are complete.

Wildlife enthusiasts can expect sightings of bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, grey rhebok, baboon, and yellow mongoose, along with the elusive caracal and leopard. The marine reserve is a breeding ground for the Southern Right whale, with around 120 whales returning annually to mate and calve. High dunes at Koppie Alleen provide an exceptional vantage point for observing these magnificent creatures.

About the Cottage

Tucked among milkwood trees and a short walk from both the vlei and Melkkamer Manor House, the Melkkamer Foremans Cottage offers three bedrooms (one double or twin and two twin bedrooms) and a fully equipped kitchen/lounge/dining area. Guests can enjoy an outdoor barbecue area and choose between self-catering or meals arranged at the Manor House, including picnic-style options.
