Club Med South Africa: Set to Open in 2026
The construction of Club Med's first-ever resort in South Africa is advancing rapidly, building excitement as the grand opening in July 2026 draws near. Officially called Club Med South Africa, this unique destination will seamlessly blend beachside relaxation with thrilling safari adventures.
Nestled along the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal and surrounded by vibrant wildlife reserves, this resort will offer the perfect getaway for both international and local travelers looking for a mix of peaceful serenity and adrenaline-filled experiences.
Key Milestones and Construction Phases
Due to the large scale of the project, construction is happening in phases, with multiple areas being developed at once. The current focus is on three major components:
Hotel Section:
The construction of the main hotel is progressing smoothly, with the first floor now complete. The resort will feature 345 rooms, along with a Resort Centre that will house a main pool, a restaurant, a bar, a welcome area, and a boutique. This central hub is designed to be a lively focal point for guests. Additionally, the family area, including a family pool, kids' clubs, and a sports zone, is well underway, ensuring a comprehensive experience for visitors of all ages.
Exclusive Collection Villas:
The foundations are in place, and piling work has started for the 66 luxury villas, each offering stunning views of the nearby estuary, providing a tranquil and exclusive retreat.
Convention Centre and Parking:
Groundwork is in progress for the state-of-the-art conference venue, designed to host up to 500 delegates, as well as a parking area that will help maintain a vehicle-free zone, promoting safety and tranquility for guests.
Commitment to Sustainability and Local Engagement
This project reflects a strong collaboration between global best practices and local expertise. Following the principles of the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), the development is set to achieve a 4-star GBCSA rating, underscoring Club Med's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
At the peak of construction, over 1,200 workers are expected to be employed, with the current workforce already reaching 40% of that goal. The majority of the labor force comes from the surrounding 5km radius, involving three local wards and the traditional council, ensuring that the project positively impacts the local community.
Chris du Toit, Project Director for the development, emphasized, “This project highlights the power of collaboration and a shared vision. By combining global standards with local expertise, we are not just creating a resort, but contributing to the growth and development of the region.”
