The estate offers five elegant Manor Suites within the main house and a secluded Vineyard Suite tucked away in an adjacent building. At the newly established cellar, Brookdale’s next chapter unfolds in The Bistro and Tasting Room.

Set on gentle slopes at the far edge of the vineyards, The Bistro overlooks rolling vines and the dramatic mountain backdrop of the valley. With no neighbouring buildings in sight, the setting feels wonderfully removed from the world. Here, under the guidance of Executive Chef Gary Coetzee, menus follow the rhythm of the seasons — celebrating local ingredients, minimising food miles, and presenting thoughtful, inventive dishes shaped by nature.

The Tasting Room: Where Old-World Elegance Meets New-World Bravery

Brookdale’s Cellar and Tasting Room is more than a place of vinification — it is a welcoming space for community, connection, and shared discovery.

With a front-row view of the harvest, guests can explore the Brookdale and Mason Road wine ranges, engage with the team about the estate’s viticultural philosophy, and sample terroir-driven vintages that express the character of the Paarl Valley. Innovation is embraced here: new ideas are tested, conversations are encouraged, and each harvest is treated as a fresh opportunity to create something exceptional.

Guests are invited to enjoy curated wine tastings, wines by the glass or bottle, and selections from the new Small Plates menu available in the Tasting Room.

Wine: Expect the Unexpected

The terroir of the Paarl wine valley presents a remarkable canvas of character and elegance. UK-born proprietor Tim Rudd recognised the estate’s potential when he acquired what was once overgrown and underutilised land in 2015. With a clear vision, he set out to establish a world-class country estate producing distinctive blends that combine unusual varietals with South Africa’s celebrated classics.

At Brookdale, wine begins in the vineyard — shaped by mineral-rich soils, generous sunshine, and fresh valley air. It is refined in the cellar through skill and creativity, and ultimately finds its purpose when shared.

Vines & Viticulture: The Promise of a New Vintage

A true transformation story, Brookdale’s vineyards required care and imagination to unlock their promise. Of the estate’s 67 hectares, 24 hectares are currently under vine — planted from 2016 onward, with further expansion underway. A treasured block of approximately 40-year-old Chenin Blanc was preserved and now anchors the Brookdale range.

The vineyard philosophy centres on identifying the estate’s most promising sites and planting carefully considered blocks. Alongside Paarl’s signature varietals, Brookdale cultivates distinctive grape varieties from Portugal, France, and Italy — uncommon in South Africa — creating an engaging and diverse vineyard composition.

Exploration and freedom of expression lie at the heart of Brookdale’s approach — the pure expression of fruit, site, and season.
