The Kruger National Park was proclaimed in 1926 and covers an area of about 21 497 km² extending over a distance of approximately 380 km from the Limpopo River in the North to the Crocodile River in the South. The topography of the Kruger National Park is consistent except in the northern reaches, where nine of Africa’s major ecosystems can be found.

The vegetation in the Kruger National Park is mainly bushveld, varying form park-like grasslands to dense bush, especially in the rainfall season.
