Introducing Winterton
The quaint South African town of Winterton nestles in the beautiful foothills of the Drakensberg mountain range in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. Winterton is the main access point to the Central Drakensberg. This typical pioneer settlement offers a very relaxed atmosphere. Originally known as Springfield, the tree-lined village on the banks of the Little Thukela River was renamed in 1910. Maize and wheat are grown in this region in South Africa and beef farmers can also be found.
Winterton has become a popular tourist attraction offering accommodation and exciting adventure activities in the Drakensberg region. The spectacular Champagne, Cathedral and Cathkin peaks surround Winterton. Hiking trails, trout and bass fishing, San rock art, horse riding and hang-gliding are the main attractions in this region of South Africa.
