- Howick Museum: exhibits of the development of the village from 1840; it has a reference library and family records are continually updated
- Howick Falls: this magnificent and spectacular waterfall is on the Umgeni River and is approx 93m in height
- Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve: it is situated in the spectacular gorge below the Howick Falls; game which can be viewed are giraffe, zebra and antelope and it is a bird watchers paradise; there are six walking trails
- Howick Falls Gorge Walking Trail: this walk will take you an hour or two winding down to the foaming pool at the bottom of the Falls
- Umgeni River Trail: this trail is roughly an hour and winds along the Umgeni River past the Mills Falls area and ends just beyhond the Umgeni Gardens Flats
- Beacon Hill Trail: this trail is roughly an hour
- Karkloof Canopy tour: this is a 3hr adventure involving traversing from one platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to 30m above the forest floor; it zig-zags down a pristine forested valley with magnificent scenery and spectacular birdlife
- Midmar Dam Nature Reserve.
Introducing Howick
In 1850 the little town of Howick in South Africa was built just above the 93m river drop, now known as Howick Falls. It was named after Viscount Howick (later Earl Grey, British Colonial Secretary). Howick nestles on the Midlands Meander route.
The main attraction is the Howick Falls but the town offers a good selection of antiques, arts and crafts. This area is perfect for leisurely hikes and a bit of bird watching, trout fishing and explore the hills on horseback and mountain bike.
