Introducing Mthatha & Surrounds

Mthatha and its surrounding area are located in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.  This scenic area of the Eastern Cape comprises the spectacular Coffee Bay, the town of Kokstad, the city of Mthatha itself and the village of Port St Johns.

Mthatha / Umtata, Eastern Cape (South Africa)

Mthatha / Umtata in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province is a colourful, very African and lively centre of this region. The former Transkei is now part of the Eastern Cape Province.  The greatest attraction of Mthatha / Umtata, today, is the Nelson Mandela Museum which is located in the Bhunga Building in Owen Street. The modern museum displays a substantial variety of historic ducuments and photos of Madiba's 'Long Way to Freedom' which is the title of his famous book.

Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast, Eastern Cape (South Africa)

One of the most beautiful locations on the Wild Coast in South Africa is the small coastal village of Coffee Bay.  This part of the coastline in the Eastern Cape Province is magnificent and the beach is untouched stretching between the green rolling hills and the ocean. Coffee Bay in the heart of the Wild Coast of South Africa offers excellent fishing as well as spectacular walks through coastal bush which is home to abundant bird life. The 'Hole in the Wall' can be admired here which is a geological marvel.

Various hiking trails abound around the area, the famous Wild Coast Hiking Trail being one of them.  Activities like swimming, shell collecting, walking, fishing, surfing, spearfishing, scuba diving, horse riding and golf are available in this area of South Africa's beautiful coastline.

Port St. Johns

The African village of Port St. Johns on South Africa's Wild Coast is a popular holiday destination due to the excellent fishing spots at the river and at the sea.  Port St. Johns is home to three beaches. The Second Beach, which is 5 kilometres east of the village centre of Port St. Johns, is the prettiest, surrounded by evergreen rainforest and wild banana trees.
