Reading Country Club

A beautiful, well-kept and managed 18-hole golf course with a typical woodland layout. The greens are tree-lined with water featuring on most of the holes. The Country Club doubles as a conference venue and also houses a pro-shop and bowling green.

Glendower Golf Course, Johannesburg, Gauteng (South Africa)

In 1935 ten businessmen joined together to establish a company and purchased the farm “Glendower” with the purpose of creating a Country Club with a golf course in Gauteng. The farm was 126 morgan in extent with much of it being taken up by plantations of trees. An English golf architect, Mr. Allison was employed to plan the golf course and a South African professional golfer, A.F.Tomsett, was assigned the task of the golf course construction. It was also planned that the Glendower Golf Club should have a polo pitch but this was abandoned due to the high cost of leveling the ground.

The Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa, opened on the 7th March 1937.  The standard of this golf course was so good that after only two years the Glendower golf course played host to its first major tournament, The Transvaal Open Championship.  In 1946 forty professionals from South Africa and Rhodesia played in a tournament for 100 pounds, the largest purse ever for a South African tournament at the time. In 1973 the Glendower Golf Club in Johannesburg, Gauteng, was proclaimed a Nature Reserve. This proclamation was in order to preserve the extraordinary bird-life which is home on the golf course.

During the 80’s the golf course saw a major face change. All 18 greens were reshaped and rebuilt, new tee positions were added, existing water hazards were cleared and extended and new water features added at a number of holes. The changes have made the Glendower golf course one of the most challenging and beautiful courses in South Africa and at present we are rated the best course in Gauteng and have been rated in the top 10 by Compleat Golfer.  The Glendower Golf Club also hosted the South African Open in 1987, 1993 and 1997.

The Compleat Golfer's rankings in 2008 rated the Glendower golf course in Johannesburg, Gauteng, as the Second Best Classic Golf Course in South Africa.

The Glendower Golf Club features good practice facilities with an excellent practice tee behind the clubhouse, a large practice putting green in front of the clubhouse and chipping greens and bunkers next to the 10th tee.

The Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Course, Fairway Avenue, Linksfield North Johannesburg, Gauteng.

This course was established more than 100 Years ago and was initially known by the name of The Johannesburg Golf Club. The Club was granted the 'Royal' prefix by King George V in 1931, two years before the second 18 hole course- now the more famous East layout - was built alongside the existing West Course.

The East Course:
This a competition Layout that has hosted 7 South African Open Championships , the US Amatuer as well as a few other tours. Played off the Compionshop tees, the course measures 6846 Meters, and a more user friendly 6382 Meters off the club tees. it is known for it's famous 10th and 11th holes which are reputed to be the two largest back-to-back par fours in the world. The 11th hole is known as the signature hole of the course, this hole is telescoped by huge poplars that make the lower holes on the East course so spectacular.

The West Course:
By comparison to the East course, the West course is a fine example of how two layouts in close proximity can still create quite a different effect, but wastly enjoyable golfing experiences.  The Players which stray will quickly find trees, water as well as other frustratins in uncomprimising abundances in their way, whilst trying to combat the par.

Germiston Golf Course, Johannesburg (Gauteng, South Africa)

Well-manicured, the Germiston golf course which is located in Johanesburg, South Africa, affords some challenging holes in a beautiful setting, right next to Victoria Lake.  The Germiston Lake comes into play on the par-three 15th and 18th holes.

Historically speaking, an old golf course with the original design dating back to 1926. It has hosted eight South African Opens and big names such as Gary Player and Ernie Els. Els set his 15-under-par record here in 1993. Recently refurbished and redesigned.   
 

Wanderers Golf Club

Tee-off adjacent to the famous Bidvest Wanderers Stadium. A challenging championship course with manicured tree-studded greens and narrow fairways.

Facilities include a Pro Shop, sauna and steam rooms and an open-air terrace overlooking the greens.
