Durban Beachwood Golf Course, KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa)
Golf Course Designer: Sid & Jock Brews (1930), Gary Player Design Co. (1996)
Situated seven kilometres away from the Durban Country Club / Durban Golf Course, the Durban Beachwood Golf Course was remodelled by the Gary Player group in 1994 to bring it to championship level like the Durban Country Club Golf Course. The Durban Beachwood Golf Course is located 12 km from Durban. Facilities include a halfway house, practice green, pro shop, golf carts, caddies, club hire, restaurant and bars. The Fairways at the Durban Beachwood Golf Course are long and narrow with straight bunkers and have steep slopes.
The Beachwood Golf Course in Durban, South Africa, was built in indigenous woodland by Percy Gilbert Stiebel around a mangrove swamp, a narrow barrier between the Indian Ocean and houses that flow along a ridge overlooking the sea. It was thought ideal at the time for a golf course. As a result, the mangrove swamp is now believed to be one of the last of its kind on the KwaZulu-Natal coast. The property, which is owned by the members, supports an amazing variety of bird life.
Visitors are welcome to play during weekdays and accompanied by a member on Saturday mornings or Sundays. Saturday afternoons are reserved for members. In 2003 the Beachwood golf course in Durban was rated 23rd in South Africa by a leading Golf Magazine.

Durban Golf Course:
A course steeped in tradition and history, Durban Country Club features the unique claim of being the only golf course on the African continent to be rated in the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World by Golf Magazine USA and is rated in the top 6 in South Africa by Golf Digest SA.
A combination of lush vegetation, sand dunes and stunning views of the Indian Ocean make this course one of the most unique, and challenging, in all the world. One of the defining characteristics of Durban Country Club are the massive undulations in the fairways, especially the 5th, 8th and 17th. The course was built on sand dunes and they are large and interesting.
The par five third hole is rated the best third in the world. Playing from a high tee to a narrow fairway with dense bush and a predatory bunker on the left hand side you’ll see why this is the most popular hole on the course.
Durban Country Club is a shot makers course that you have to think your way around. Most golfers don’t make use of their driver until well into their round due to the narrowness of the opening holes. The course, overlooking the Blue Lagoon estuary and the Indian Ocean, has hosted 16 South African Opens in total - more than any other club in South Africa - and is the proud host of the centenary SA Open in December 2010.

Signature Hole at the Durban Golf Course: Hole 3, par 5
The 3rd hole, a 468-metre par 5, is rated the best third in the world. It requires players to hit their tee shot from the highest point on the course, overlooking the Indian Ocean, into a valley below completely exposing their drive to the ocean gusts. Players must avoid the trees on the right of this straight-away hole, but also miss the large fairway bunker that sits in the landing area on the left. Large trees protect the green's left portion and will also punish any shot hit too long.

Royal Durban Golf Club, Durban KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa)
The Royal Durban Golf Club is an oasis of calm amidst the bustling city of Durban in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province. The Royal Durban golf course is conveniently located in the heart of Greyville, offering members an easy-to-reach destination from anywhere in Durban, making it the ideal place to play a few holes during lunchtimes or to meet with clients while playing a few rounds.
The Royal Durban golf course is not only unique in its setting and character, but is one of South Africa's most demanding championship courses. The length of 6115 metres could be considered a short course by modern day standards, however in Durban's humid sub tropical atmosphere it plays more like 6500 metres with little run on its lush fairways.
With the absence of trees on the Royal Durban golf course and a deceptively easy flat layout, one could be forgiven for thinking that this course presents very few challenges. However, the eighteen hole course, with its narrow fairways, thick, notorious rough and profile greenside bunkers well placed to catch any wayward shot, Royal Durban golf course has only allowed a few players to break 280 strokes over 72 holes.
