Introducing Colesberg & Surrounds
The town of Colesberg is situated in the Karoo below a cone-shaped hill and 28km from the Orange River in South Africa's Northern Cape Province. It was this hill which served as a landmark for early travellers who were exploring the interiors of South Africa. The first mission station started in Colesberg in 1814.
Colesberg is located half-way between Cape Town, Western Cape, and Johannesburg, Gauteng. Colesberg is known for its horse breeding and merino sheep farming. It has many interesting historical attractions with a mixture of architecture e.g. Cape Dutch, Victorian, Georgian and Karoo Cottage. Many of these buildings in Colesberg have been converted for accommodation.
Doornkloof Nature Reserve, Colesberg Northern Cape (South Africa)
The Doornkloof Nature Reserve is situated just outside of Colesberg. This magnificent nature reserve is home to an abundance of game such as mountain reedbucks, duikers, kudus and steenboks
Gariep Dam, Northern Cape (South Africa)
The Gariep Dam is the largest water storage reservoir in South Africa. It was formerly known as the Hendrik Verwoerd Dam. Tours can be arranged to visit the Power Station and the dam wall.
