Matabeleland North is located in the western part of Zimbabwe. This region of Zimbabwe borders the provinces of Midlands and Mashonaland West to the East and the Northeast as well as the province of Matabeleland South and the city of Bulawayo to the south.
Matabeleland North receives its name from the ethnicity of the Matabele (Ndebele) people who inhabit the area. This province in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa, was created when it was seperated into two parts to Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South, which happened around 1974.
The province's most northern border is defined by the Zambezi river, while its western border is shared with the country of Botswana. The Matabeleland North province in Zimbabwe covers an area of about 75,025 km² and is home to a population of approximately 800,000. The city of Lupane is the capital of the province. Hwange and Victoria Falls are the only towns in this province.
