Introducing Central Mozambique
The city of Beira is located in Mozambique's Sofala Province. Beira is the second largest city in the Mozambique and provides an ideal stopover place when crossing between Northern and Southern Mozambique. The city of Chimoio is set in near proximity to the Zimbabwe border in Mozambique's Manica Province. Chimoio serves as an important transport hub for travellers en route from Malawi to Southern Mozambique. Quelimane is the largest town in Mozambique's Zambezia province. Tete serves as one of the possible first or last stops en route to or from Malawi and Zimbabwe.
Chinde is a remote and inaccessible coastal town located on the southern bank of the Chinde river which forms part of the Zambezi river. Caia is a small city in the central part of Mozambique which is most notable for being the location of the lowest vehicle crossing on the Zambezi river. Mutarara / Vila de Sena is the location of the longest railway bridge in Africa. Marromeu is home to the Sena Sugar Estates and is one of the lowest towns accessible by road on the Zambezi river.
Cahora Bassa is a dam and hydroelectric power station on the Zambezi River. This dam in Mozambique is a large hydro electric scheme which supplies electricity to regions as far as South Africa. The nearby town is called Songo. Santa Carolina is an island situated at the mouth of the Limpopo River. Also referred to as Paradise Island, Santa Carolina is only 2 miles by 0.3 miles in size. Santa Carolina is a true rock island with deep channels. Santa Carolina is home to three beautiful beaches with coral reefs close to the shore. This tropical island in Mozambique forms part of the Bazaruto Archipelago. The closest mainland town to Santa Carolina is Inhassoro.
