Durban Cultural Centre/ Durban Cultural & Documentation Centre Documents the history of the Indian community. Includes information about indentured Indians and Gandhi in South Africa, and has displays of cultural artefacts, paintings, culinary art, traditional clothing and jewellery. Durban Natural Science Museum/ Kwazuzukwazi Science Centre Hosts a number of informative and educational displays of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish. The museum also has an Egyptian mummy. It will provide hours of entertainment for children and adults alike. There is also a coffee shop in the museum. Killie Campbell Museum The William Campbell picture collection contains one of South Africa's finest collections of work by black South African artists such as Jabulani Ntuli, Gerard Benghu and Dsmt Mnguni. The collection also includes 250 paintings by Barbara Tyrell, depicting Zulu social life and customs. The museum is still furnished much as it was when the Campbell family was still there. Kwa Muhle Museum Once the office of the notorious department of native affairs. Maritime Museum Built on a small tugboat, in Durban s small craft harbour. The museum has several old ships on display including a World War 11 minesweeper ( SAS Durban), a steam tug ( the I.R. Old Court House Museum The building was erected as a courthouse in 1866. Among its collections this museum has photos, artefacts and documents. It is a national monument. This museum is situated on the corner of Aliwal Street and Smith Street, Durban. Old House Museum Replica of the original George Robinson home built in 1850. It belonged to George Robinson (early editor of the Mercury) and then to his son Sir John Robinson,First Prime Minister of Natal during the 1890's. Phansi Museum Viewing by appointment. Admission R30. Mon-Sat 10am- 4pm. The Phansi Museum private collection of Southern African tribal artifacts is beautifully displayed in the basement rooms of Robert's house-a Victorian historical monument. To get there from the CBD - follow Sydney Road out of town for 1,9km. Turn right into Franks Road (directly after Timber City) go over Umbilo Road to Frere Road (0.6km) turn left and go up the hill (0.4km). Pinetown Museum This is a multi cultural local history museum representing all cultures and covering 100 000 years of human development. Private Garden And Bead Museum Merriwinkle estate in Kloof is the home of Peter Amm, architect, landscaper and collector. It has one of the most beautiful private gardens in Durban. Amm has converted a building on the property into a private bead museum with a superb collection of African beadwork and traditional artifacts. He is in the process of developing a private sculptured garden featuring the work of South African artists. Across the road is the gorge garden grove nursery. Warriors' Gate Moth Museum A rich collection of militaria is on view in this museum. South African involvement in the two world wars is the focus of the collection.
