Activities
The five star Palmiet Valley Estate is located in the heart of the beautiful Cape winelands in the historic town of Paarl. Paarl and the surrounding wine farming towns of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch are famous for their world class whites, reds, sherries, ports and brandies.
A highlight of any visit to the Cape winelands in South Africa is a wine tasting trip through these picturesque towns and farms, sampling the wine and cheese produced here, visiting the historic farm homesteads and Huguenot monuments dating back to the 17th century, browsing the quaint high street antique shops, and lunching in some of South Africa’s finest restaurants or picnicking on any of the wine estates along the way.
Ways to experience the winelands include by foot, on horseback, or in a chauffeur-driven classic limousine from Palmiet’s vintage car collection.
Paarl is famous for its rock climbing terrain. This activity caters for the adventure-seeker and includes a decent through the Limietberge canyon using abseils, jumps, belays and traverses. With no less than six waterfalls, abseils range from 15 to 50 metres with the option of cliff jumping for the brave-hearted.
Cape Winelands Golfing in South Africa
Chauffeur driven tours, great food, inviting accommodation, and proximity to more than a dozen golf courses, some just 5 minutes away, make Palmiet Valley Estate the perfect base for golfing parties and tours. A visit to the Palmiet Valley Estate would not be complete without playing the wonderful greens and fairways of the winelands.
Boschenmeer Golf Course (Paarl)
The 27-holes offer a splendid mix of tree-lined fairways and challenging water features all leading to superb, large greens. The Berg River that runs on the southern border of the estate and the Du Toit’s kloof mountains enhance the 27-hole challenge. Boschenmeer is just 5 minutes from Palmiet Valley Estate.
Erinvale Golf Course (Somerset West)
From a playing perspective, this 18-hole championship course designed by Gary Player, is the finest in the area and is set in a beautiful landscape. The back nine lead up to the hills with fantastic views to False Bay. Sloping positions and narrow fairways bring an exciting challenge to the game. Erinvale hosted the 1996 World Cup of Golf and currently hosts the annual SAA Open.
Spier / Klein Zalze Golf Course (Stellenbosch)
Eighteen beautiful but different fairways between vineyards and orange plantations characterise the Spier Country Club in Stellenbosch. They are hilly and often not visible. The necessary blind strokes and many bunkers, make the game a real challenge and you can easily lose a ball.
Pearl Valley Golf Course (Paarl)
A further golfing highlight is a game on the championship course of the legendary golfer and golf course designer Jack Nicklaus: the spectacular Pearl Valley Course in Paarl. In its engineering and planning detail, the course is very rare. It is crossed by roads in only three places, and the drainage system allows play to continue just minutes after a severe cloudburst.
