All the suites, and every public area, are fitted with constantly monitored smoke detection systems. Two highly qualified technicians are always on board, and the trains are thoroughly serviced at the Pretoria depot after every return trip.

Fine dining on board of The Blue Train
The Blue Train provides fine dining and the gourmet cuisine is complemented by the carefully selected, best South African wines.
All meals are freshly prepared on board the train by Executive Chefs. In keeping with the classically romantic ambience of the 42-seater dining car, lunch is a casual affair, while dinner is formal. Men are requested to wear a jacket and tie or dress in traditional attire and ladies are requested to dress in elegant evening wear or traditional attire.

1. Pretoria - Cape Town - Pretoria
The route between Pretoria and Cape Town is a 27-hour journey. It takes guests through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery the sub-continent has to offer. Southbound, off-the train excursions include the diamond town of Kimberley where one can explore the Big Hole and the Diamond Museum. Northbound, visit the small town of Matjiesfontein, which includes the famous Lord Milner Hotel and the old Car Museum.
2. Garden route: Cape Town - Port Elizabeth - Cape Town
On the magnificent Garden Route Tour, The exclusive Blue Train takes guests on a 2-night and 1½-days journey between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth over the majestic Outeniqua Pass, stopping at Oudtshoorn for a memorable off-the train excursion, which includes a visit to the world-famous Cango Caves and an Ostrich farm, ending at a local restaurant which prides itself on serving an indigenous flavour of South African cuisine.

The Durban route takes guests from Pretoria to Durban. The package includes two nights' accommodation on The Blue Train and two nights at one of the Hotels in or around Durban.

Facilities of The Blue Train
Fax facilities are available in the train manager's office on The Blue Train. Guests also have access to facilities for mailing letters, as well as stamps and The Blue Train postcards. A camera mounted on the front of both trains gives guests a driver's-eye-view of the scenery ahead. The unfolding journey is shown on a TV screen in the club car and on one of the TV channels so guests can view it in their suites.
Each suite is also equipped with a cellular communication telephone, which can be used for phone calls and to reach train staff. The Blue Train has a central intercom system, which is used for making relevant announcements.
