Whale Festival Hermanus
The Hermanus Whale Festival
If you are heading to the popular Whale Festival in Hermanus, which is being held 30th of September till the 2nd of October 2016, you should try and take the scenic coastal route via Gordon’s Bay, Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Bettie’s Bay and Kleinmond. Although this route is about 25 km longer than driving via the highway, you will enjoy magnificent views across the ocean to Cape Point and enjoy the country side of the Western Cape’s Overberg.
This will allow you to add some lovely stops during the drive and maybe even catch a glimpse of a whale breaching in the bay. A delicious breakfast awaits at the 365 Restaurant in Pringle Bay which could be an ideal stop.
The other stops you can make along this route are:
- Penguin colony in Betty’s Bay at Stony Point (smaller than Boulders beach but not as crowded)
- Harold Porter Botanical Garden in Betty’s Bay (as spectacular as Kirstenbosch but smaller).
