Warming yellows and golds, silk shades and velvet banquettes welcome diners to the exclusive Nobu Restaurant at the five star One&Only Cape Town Resort which is centrally located at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. This winter, the restaurant offers various dining options, whether guests are popping in for a quick drink and bite or lingering over delectable chef’s recommended fare.

Guests may enjoy original, delicious signature sake cocktails at the Nobu bar, along with plum wines and Japanese beers. The Matsuhisa Martini with Hokusetsy Sake and Grey Goose, shaken with ginger makes the perfect winter cocktail, while the Yamamomo Royal of Takara Plum Wine topped with sparkling wine is the ideal drink to start off the evening.

Dinners in the restaurant are simply delectable, and diners are warmly welcomed with a resounding “irasshaimase” in Japanese from the waiters and chefs at the open sushi kitchen. Although the ambience is refined, there’s a kind professionalism from the waiters who are quick to suggest dishes from the Osusume menu – meaning “recommended” in Japanese. Family-style eating and sharing is also advised here. Japanese and South American flavours come to the fore in dishes such as kingklip and crayfish in miso butter, sea bass jalapeño, wagyu tacos and soft shell crab harumaki.

The Omakase Menu is the chef’s special recommendation. This six-course tasting menu is excellently priced at R545 per person, considering the quality of the produce and expert technique in preparation used. It’s also an ideal way to experience the best Nobu has to offer.

For a truly authentic Japanese taste, the Deluxe Bento Box at the hotel is an excellent choice. Served in a lacquer box, with neat compartments for various food items and condiments, this fun way of eating is highly recommended, and is priced at R425, including miso and dessert.

Whether one is craving delicate Japanese fare, or fiery South American flavours, the Nobu restaurant fits the bill perfectly this winter. The current winter Nobu Lite, Omakase and Deluxe Bento Box menus are available every evening until 30 September 2015.
