WORDLESS WEDNESDAYS: Highest Hotels in the World

Highest Hotels in the World

This week we are looking at hotels which are over 200 meters high, not for the faint hearted with a fear of heights.  Here, at home in Johannesburg, the Cupola Suite at the five star Michelangelo Towers on the Nelson Mandela Square would be the winner.

However, when it comes to the true ‘king of the castle’, the United Arab Emirates would win hands down with 8 of 10 of tallest hotels.  With the likes of the luxurious Burj Al Arab setting the trend of what it is like to tower above every one else.

The Presidential Suite at the JW Marriott Hotel Dubai is one of the highest Presidential Suites in Dubai at 355 meters in over 600 square meters.

With its incredible 72 storeys, the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana in Dubai measures a staggering 333 metres in height.

Hotel Ryugyong: 26 years and 3000 hotel rooms later, Kim’s idea of going big or going home and yes 330 meters up in the North Korean capital sky of Pyongyang, is strange but true. The top of the building was said to have a dome, but Kim had it changed to a point as it looked more threatening.

The ultra luxurious Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai is perhaps one of the most iconic hotels in the world sitting on its own island in the sea with amazing facilities like the famous under water restaurant.

The Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel with its over 400 rooms is huge by any standards.

Here in South Africa, we also have a ‘bean stalk’ which towers above Johannesburg’s magnificent skyline being the exclusive Michelangelo Towers Hotel which is home to the highest Presidential Suite in South Africa at 143 meters in over 600 square meters.
