Moyo uShaka in Durban – A unique destination for a sophisticated African experience
Moyo is the realisation of one man’s passion for all African things – from art and design to music, cuisine and crafts. Jason Lurie Started “Moyo” in 1998 as a small 120-seater restaurant in Norwood, Johannesburg, serving exceptional African cuisine amidst soulful vibes.
Fantastic live African music, as well as sophisticated African dining in a unique setting are the benchmarks of the seven evocative moyo establishments, today. The stylish Moyo Melsore Arch rose from it’s granite bedrock in 2002, to five enchanting levels offering diverse fine-dining experiences to privileged guests who enjoy a totally different dinning experience. Thereafter the winelands of the Western Cape welcomed the brand, and the magical Moyo Stellenbosch emerged – surrounded by ancient oak trees. On Spier Wine Estate, moyo treats guests to a supreme African-inspired buffet, under a canopy of stars and Bedouin tents – or in an ethereal tree house – all nestled in lush gardens, But moyo is ever changing, and Moyo Zoo Lake, Johannesburg, opened as a tranquil retreat on the water’s edge. It’s a place to enjoy soul food or cocktails as well as a scrumptious breakfast under the African skies, as the children play safely nearby, lastly the elegant moyo Fountains, Pretoria, is at the heart of iconic Groenkloof Nature Reserve, and is inspired by cool natural springs.
Coastal offerings are both east and west. Balmy Moyo uShaka in Durban is a tropical east coast wonderland with sweeping sea views of the endless Ocean, while the Pier Bar nearby stands with its feet in the Indian Ocean – giving guests a sense of sailing out to sea, its an unforgettable experience. Cosmopolitan Moyo Blouberg is also right on the water’s edge, with panoramic vistas west over the cool Atlantic – and acclaimed heritage sites Table Mountain and Robben Island.
Different African countries are regularly showcased at moyo too, so Africa lovers can experience an authentic taste of the diverse cultures of the continent. Be inspired with moyo by the magic and mystery of their ancient African continent.
