The Yale Spizzwinks at De Waal Park

The weather looks promising!

From the opposite side of the Atlantic Ocean to the shores of Cape Town comes a group of a cappella singers that personifies talent and encapsulates outstanding entertainment – the Yale Spizzwinks. The group came into existence in 1914 at Yale University and the torch has been passed down the generations of gifted performers to its current 18 members. The group incorporates an array of musical genres in their performances, including jazz, pop and rock ‘n’ roll.

The Spizzwinks have won over fans including the likes of Magic Johnson, Henry Kissinger, Kelsey Grammer, former Governor George Pataki, Senator John Kerry, and Fred Savage. Furthermore, the group is enjoyed by audiences at ESPN, Disney World, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Carnegie Hall, the Honda Centre, Severance Hall and even the White House. They have carried out shows in Asia, South America, Africa, Europe, the United States and New Zealand; and now South Africa will once again have the honour of their visit.

It is with absolute pleasure and keen anticipation that Winchester Mansions will generously host the Spizzwinks during the Cape Town leg of their South African tour, as the group in turn delights the hotel’s guests with its performances. Not only will their performances bring entertainment, joy and laughter to our part of the globe, as this world renowned group graciously gives of their time, but their presence in South Africa will also seek to uplift communities and enhance cultural interactions. Winchester Mansions welcomes guests to take up this opportunity to be thoroughly entertained and to support the good cause behind the group’s performances. Thanks to the support and sponsorship that the Spizzwinks have received from schools, the group’s alumni board, and hotels like Winchester Mansions, property group Remax Living, they are able to perform at De Waal Park.

Young and old are invited to enjoy The Spizzwinks performance in the bandstand Sunday the 27th of May 2012. The performance will commence at 15h00, and entrance is free! Concert-goers are encouraged to arrive from 14h00, and bring their own picnics (no food or drinks will be for sale), chairs, sun umbrellas, rugs, etc. De Waal Park is located on Molteno Road with entrances on Molteno, Upper Orange and Camp Streets.

Cape Town increases flights to Mauritius

Cape Town Increases Flights to Mauritius.

Cape Town Increases Flights to Mauritius

Air Mauritius will be expanding its flights from Cape Town in South Africa to Mauritius. Flights to Mauritius, starting in November 2012, will be increased from two to three times a week. Flights from Cape Town to Joburg will also be increased, but flights from Durban will be halted on October 26th. Emirates will become the sole provider of overseas flights from Durban. Those who live in Durban will be inconvenienced, with flights typically having to change planes in Johannesburg.

The people of Durban had high hopes that there would be more flights without plane changes departing from Durban. Comair was planning a route between Durban and London. This plan was abandoned after British Airways conducted research and found that it would not be a feasible venture. This was most likely caused by the 8 percent rise in taxes that passengers pay when entering or leaving the United Kingdom. The raise in taxes accompanied by the European Union carbon tax for airlines, would make it unrealistic to do business between Durban and London.

The Londolozi Honeymoon Safari

Sabi Sands Game Reserve / Kruger National Park in South Africa

The Londolozi Private Game Reserve in South Africa is one of the last wild places where the great herds of elephant still roam, where the night is sequined with a million stars and where lions may be found gliding across a clearing in the dawn light.

At the Londolozi Game Reserve they understand that safaris are not just enjoyable holidays but punctuation marks in the journey of life.   They are aware that Africa as a place where sunsets are intrinsically romantic and the awe of the wild makes for a thrilling feeling in the very marrow of our bones. It is against this backdrop of impossible wonderment that they launched “The Londolozi Honeymoon Experience”.

Londolozi Honeymoon Safari Vehicle

By combining first class service and absolute luxury with an authentic wilderness adventure, Londolozi has set out to ensure that the honeymoon experience becomes the standout defining moment that will live in the hearts of newlyweds for the rest of time.

Honeymoon at the Private Granite Suites

At Londolozi ‘s Private Granite Suites, each suite is situated along the Sand River and includes an elegant sitting room and bedroom, glass encased en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, heated swimming pool and, quite extraordinarily, a private outdoor river-view bath. The bath, spacious enough for two and positioned so that you feel the warm sun on your shoulders or see the moon river reflected at your feet, is in itself the ultimate honeymoon accessory.

In this intimate setting the newlyweds are invited to be co-creators of their safari experience, venturing beyond the classic interpretive game drive to explore bush yoga, meditative walks, animal tracking, champagne sunsets and full moon bush dinners, as well as the opportunity for wilderness couples massages on an elevated look out deck deep in the heart of the reserve.

The Londolozi Honeymoon Experience is Fully Inclusive of:

- A Private Granite Suite
- The Honeymoon Safari Land Rover with private guide and tracker
- Personalised itinerary for each day
- Private dinners
- Romantic turn downs
- A couples wilderness massage overlooking the Sand River
- Limitless Champagne
- Wilderness picnics

We recommend a minimum 3 night stay at the Londolozi Private Game Reserve.

Cassia’s Winter Menu A Seasonal Feast, Cape Town / Western Cape

Cassia’s Winter Menu A Seasonal Feast.

Cassia’s Winter Menu A Seasonal Feast.

This winter sees Cassia restaurant, which is located on the scenic Nitida wine farm in the Durbanville valley, boasting warming comfort food favourites on its brand new winter menu.  With modern and inviting décor inside, and an expansive deck outside overlooking the magnificent dam and vineyards beyond, Cassia has become a firm favourite for locals and visitors alike. Situated a mere 20 minutes from central Cape Town, it is  ideal for guests wanting a true taste of the  winelands, without having to drive for an hour to get the experience.

Having joined Cassia in 2009, chef proprietor Warren Swaffield’s philosophy is simple and a recipe for success: honest, uncomplicated flavours, generous portions and quality ingredients. As far as possible, he sources local ingredients, for example all the honey he uses, comes from bees kept on Nitida wine farm.

This is all evident in his brand new winter menu, which has classic comfort favourites, some Italian and Asian influences (inspired by ten years working in premier establishments in Europe and on luxury cruise liners) and a good helping of local classics.

Hearty winter starters such as the minestrone soup with chunky vegetables and herbed croutons, is warming and delicious. For something a bit more exotic, the Asian crispy duck salad is filled with winter greens and zingy citrus segments in a miso dressing. While the Camembert baked in phyllo pastry served with homemade Nitida grape chutney is already a local favourite.

With this winter menu’s combination of hearty and lighter dishes, quality local wines, a stunning Cape Town winelands setting and professional service to boot, Nitida is set to be a hot spot this winter.

Cassia restaurant is situated in Nitida Wine Farm, Tygervalley Road (M13) Durbanville. Open Mondays to Fridays for lunch and dinner, Saturdays for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Sundays for breakfast and lunch and it is closed on Sunday evenings, but available for private functions.
