Cape Town, Western Cape / South Africa
Our congratulations go the Winner of this year’s Cape Argus Cyle Race: HERMAN FOUCHE(Team Bonitas). WELL DONE!!!
The spectacular Cape Argus Cycle Tour took place today, 10 March 2013, in a warm and sunny Cape Town, South Africa. Thousands of excited bicyclists took to the streets to take part in this challenging race which attracts local and international participants alike.
The Cape Argus Cycle Tour 2013 was won by the 25 year old Herman Fouche of the Team Bonitas, with Tyler Day finishing second and Fouche’s Bonitas team mate Christoph van Heerden finishing third.
It took several television replays before the actual result of the winner at the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town 2013 could be confirmed, although Fouche’s celebrations as he crossed the line suggested he knew straight away that he’d won, having finished second last year.
The women’s Cape Argus Cycle Race was won by Anriette Schoeman, who now holds seven impressive titles. Second place went to Chrise Stander, Jennifer Stenerhag from Sweden finished third, making her the only rider from outside of South Africa to have won a place on the podium finish this year.
The Cape Argus Cycle Race started from Adderley Street in the Cape Town city centre and passed through landmarks such as Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town,Noordhoek Farm Village, Hout Bay, Camps Bay and Sea Point, before finishing near the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point.
The start for the 2013 Cape Argus is in Hertzog Boulevard at the Cape Town Civic Centre, and the route, which is 110km long, takes riders onto the N2, down the M3 along the False Bay Coast past the entrance to the Cape of Good Hope, along the Atlantic coast, over Suikerbossie Hill and on to the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point.
While the original Cape Argus Cycle Race route was intended to take cyclists on the 140-km circular stretch, to include a leg through Cape Point, the Cape Point Nature Reserve declined entry and the route was reduced to between 104-km and 110-km, passing over the scenic Chapman’s Peak.
