The pool is the first thing you notice as you arrive at the Crystal Towers Hotel and Spa in Century City. Thrust from the hotel and suspended in the air above the parking lot, one can simply drive past on the way to do the weekly grocery shopping and catch a glimpse of a scantily clad body weaving through those turquoise waters.

To me, this is the essence of Crystal Towers Hotel in Cape Town. This hotel means business but there is a hint of something sassy, naughty and a little bit mischievous lurking beneath its serious facade. Step through the front doors and a sparkly world of raining diamonds, glowing chandeliers, trickling streams and hot pink neon lights greets you; completely unexpected when set against the tarnished, old-world style buildings that make up Century City.

Stunning women in tottering heals adorn the reception desk while you attempt to look like you didn’t just wake up from a long flight on a stuffy aircraft. Corridors lined with glittery drapes lead you to your room where the shower is undoubtedly the first thing you notice. Round, large and set within the middle of the room, the “crystal showers” are not ideal for those not comfortable with their partner, or afraid to quickly become acquainted. In the drawers beneath the TV a selection of DVDs are there for you to wile the time away and one featuring bold red lettering spelling out the word adult, brazenly reminds you of the naughty but nice atmosphere that is the Crystal Towers, Cape Town.

The Ruby Bar

As the sunsets over the Atlantic, the Ruby bar awaits with a range of cocktails in tow. Bright crimson and draped in jewels, this bar screams for women dressed in sky-high heels with suited gentlemen in tow. It’s not all fun and games though; the hotel also offers a variety of conferencing facilities that border on a shallow pool and the canal as well as a range of meeting rooms and a business centre.

A deli and restaurant lie in the corner of the hotel and it is here were one is transported into a world akin to Alice and Wonderland. Adjacent to the restaurant a deli offers a delectable range of cakes, sweets, biscuits and sushi options. If Century City is where you want and need to be, the Crystal Towers Hotel and Spa adds that little bit of sparkle to any somber and serious summit or seminar.
