Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel, Cape Town SOUTH AFRICA
As you may be aware Arabella Hotel Holding International and Starwood Hotels and Resorts recently extended their joint-venture agreement until 2037. This gives Arabella access to the Starwood brands of The Luxury Collection, St. Regis, Westin, Le Méridien, Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton, and the rights to market these in an area of exclusivity, which now includes South Africa and Namibia.
One of the immediate consequences of this is that the ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel in Cape Town will be renamed the Westin Grand Hotel. There are a number of good reasons for this, perhaps the most important of which is that in terms of the products and services it offers this hotel is better aligned with the Westin brand values than those of Sheraton.
With 121 hotels offering more than 50 000 rooms in 26 countries, Westin is an established and recognised international deluxe hotel brand. Importantly it is well-known and respected in North America and expanding its presence in emerging markets including China and Asia Pacific.
The reason for its enviable reputation as one of the world’s top hotel brands are the rigorous standards that are applied in every Westin hotel, from the moment you arrive at the door until the last Westin associate wishes you a safe journey.
Of course there’s more to becoming a Westin hotel than simply changing the signage on the side of the hotel. Over the next few months we’ll be rolling out extensive Westin training programmes and will also be upgrading our rooms to Westin standards. This includes introducing the Heavenly Bed, Heavenly Bath and Heavenly Shower and providing an entirely new in-room entertainment system.
There are plenty of other things that need to be done before we can proudly hoist the new branding outside the Westin Grand Hotel. We have committed to have this in place by the end of July this year. It is a big job, but I’m confident that by the time Cape Town first sees the Westin branding over the City, we’ll be providing the products and service that Westin guests around the world have come to value.
The hotel is already recognised as one of the best in Africa. The new branding, product and service standards give us a real opportunity to be the best.
