Sun City Resort and Hotels, Pilanesberg South Africa

R200m REFURB OF SUN CITY HOTEL ROOMS OVER THREE YEARS
No disruption to operation or guests as per Sun International

A R200 million, three-year staged room refurbishment of the 27-year-old Sun City Hotel begins on April 1 next year in a programme that will, says Sun International, have a minimum impact on the uninterrupted operation of the hotel.

The hotel was the first to be built at Sun City and its 340 rooms and suites have enjoyed a phenomenally high occupancy rate since opening. It is the gaming heart of Sun City and Sun International’s MVG (Most Valued Guest) programme relies strongly on its popularity as a gaming venue and as a hotel of choice at the resort.

Making the official announcement yesterday, Sun International Management stressed that only 122 rooms would be refurbished in the first stage until the end of October and enormous care would be taken to avoid guests being in any way inconvenienced. Public areas would remain unaffected and international and local group bookings would be accommodated without disruption. Guest services would, if anything, be stepped up from current high levels.

The refurbishment programme will also be suspended during the resort’s year-end maximum occupancy high season.

The room refurbishments are intended to bring the hotel’s accommodation in line with its status as one of the best-known hotels in the world. Aside from Sun City’s flagship, The Palace of the Lost City, the Sun City Hotel is the most strongly associated with the famous resort.

The upgrades will include repositioning of some in-room facilities, such as showers, and the introduction of an exciting new palette of colours and new textures for the upholstery and soft furnishings.

While the Sun City Hotel at the Sun City Resort has undergone several ‘soft’ refurbishments over the years, this project is the first one that will see room and suite layouts and designs undergoing extensive change.
