Minimum age for participation
Runners must turn 20 during 2006 (born before 31 December 1987) to be eligible to run.

Age Category Tags
Numerical age category tags are to be clearly displayed on the upper body garment. No athlete (including temporary licence holders and juniors registered with a club or running in a temporary licence) will be eligible for any age category prize, unless he/she is wearing an official numerical age category tag on the front and back of their vest (ASA rule 11). Age category tags can be purchased at Registration at a cost of R5 a set. A ‘Junior” is defined as an athlete under the age of 20 on 31 December in year of competition (ASA rule 11.3).

Age Category Runners
An athlete is not eligible for a prize in more than one age group category i.e. an athlete is only eligible for a prize in the age category applicable to him/her or the younger category chosen by him/her providing he/she is wearing the relevant age category tags. An athlete, male or female, who finishes the race in first to tenth position, may however, win his/her position prize as well as any applicable age group category prize. Unless you specifically request in writing to the Two Oceans Marathon organizers to change your age category to a lower age group category prior to closing date, you will be entered in the age group category of your chronological age both for individual and any team competition (ASA rules 11.3 to 11.8 inclusive).

Licence Requirements
All South African entrants must possess a valid 2006 Athletics South Africa (ASA) license by the time they enter the race.

Club Colours / Running Gear
All South African entrants must run in the official club colours of the club that they entered under. No identification of sponsors of individual athletes may appear on advertising inside the competition area. Tattoos or any markings on any part of the body are illegal. Numerical age category tags must be clearly displayed on the front and back of the running vest, if competitors are to be eligible for any age category prize apart from the open category.

The domicilium rule will be strictly enforced. No athlete may run for a club other than a registered club in the Province in which they are domiciled unless they have been declared a National athlete by ASA.

Acknowledgement of Entry
Entries can be confirmed on this website by clicking on “Confirm Entry” and printing the acknowledgement page. Entry acknowledgements and race brochures will be posted to all runners from 1 February onwards. Runners who enter online and supply valid e-mail addresses will also receive acknowledgements via e-mail. Please ensure that you bring your race acknowledgement, ChampionChip and ID document (or permanent residence permit) to Registration.

Change of Entry
‘Downgrade’ to Half Marathon (21km)

Runners who have entered for the Ultra Marathon may transfer to the Half Marathon at Registration on payment of R40.

Substitutions
Substitution will only come into effect when the number of entries has reached 10 000.

Race Registration
It is compulsory to register before the race to receive your race numbers and related items. Registration will take place in new venue at the Good Hope Centre, Sir Lowry Road, Cape Town (on the corner of Oswald Pirow Street) – more info in our “Registration” section on this website.

Race Numbers
Runners will receive TWO race numbers; it is imperative that runners fill in the medical information on the back of their race number(s). These must be worn without alteration one on the front and one on the back of the vest (not obscuring your numerical age category tags). No race numbers are to be pinned on running shorts.

MISUSE of Race Numbers. Runners MAY NOT TRANSFER their race numbers and/or ChampionChips to other runners. Any runner who is found guilty of breaking this rule will be banned from the race for 2 years.

Race Packs
At Registration runners will receive their race packs including race number(s), registration bags and T-shirts. Runners who ordered ChampionChips will also receive these at Registration. Runners may not claim their re
gistration bags, ChampionChips, race number(s) and T-shirts after Registration closes. Runners who do not collect their ChampionChips at Registration will not be refunded, nor will the chips be forwarded to them.

Timing
All runners will be required to wear a ChampionChip timing device on one of their shoes during the race. The chip must be registered in the runner’s name and not belong to someone else. Runners who do not own a chip (or have lost theirs) must enclose the additional ChampionChip fee of R70 with their entry fee. Runners who have ordered chips will find these in their race packs when they register for the race. Runners who lose their chips after entering or have left them at home will be able to buy a new chip at Registration. A ChampionChip usage fee of R7 is levied; runners who own International (yellow) chips are exempt from paying this fee.

Remember: NO CHIP, NO RESULT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please have your chip scanned at Registration to check that you have the correct chip and that your details are correct. The chip becomes your property after the race and can be used for all events in SA that use the ChampionChip timing system. Please ensure that you keep your chip in a safe place after the race in order to avoid having to buy a new chip. International (yellow) chips can be used throughout the world at events that use the ChampionChip timing system.

T-Shirts
All entrants will receive a T-shirt with their race pack at Registration. Please indicate your size on the entry form. We will do everything we can to make sure you get the size specified.

Tog Bag Facility
A Tog Bag Facility will be available in the Registration Tent on the day of the race. Runners can also make use of the Tog Bag Trucks that will be available at the start outside Momentum Life. Your tog bags will be taken back to the Finish Venue. Runners must ensure that their bags are labelled with their names on the label provided in the registration pack. Every care will be taken to ensure that the bags are safeguarded. However, runners are advised not to leave expensive or valuable items in their bags, as the organisers cannot accept responsibility for any losses. Tog bags are stored in the Tog Bag Facility at the bag owner’s risk.

Parking
Parking at UCT and near the start is limited. Runners are advised to share lifts to the start and to be dropped off within walking distance. Some of the schools near the start will provide parking. The “Jammie Shuttle” bus service will take runners back to the parking areas at the start free of charge. These will leave from 10:00 onwards from the UCT Indoor Sports Centre. See our “Parking” section on the website.

One can also get to the start by train as it’s only a 5 minute walk from Newlands station to the start.

Start
Outside SA Breweries, Main Road, Newlands (Cape Town) at the bottom of Dean Street (the start is within walking distance of the finish – only 2 km).

Start Time
Please take note of the new starting time in 2006: 07:00

Marshals and Traffic Authorities
From the start runners will occupy the full width of the Main Road until Plumstead (Gabriel Road intersection where the 21km runners will be turned right), then will be moved to the left side of the road. In Fish Hoek runners will be moved over to the right-hand side of the road. Please obey all marshals and traffic authorities. The first 500 runners will take precedence over motor vehicles during the race; thereafter runners may be stopped by marshals at busy intersections. Marshals and traffic authorities must be obeyed, failing which you may be disqualified and disciplinary action taken.

Seconding
The NO MOBILE SECONDING rule will be strictly enforced. No seconds may drive, cycle or run alongside any athlete on the route. The STAND AND HAND rule, whereby a runner’s seconds may stand at any refreshment station on the route and hand refreshments to their athlete while they remain stationary, will apply. No seconds may travel on the route. The race referees will deal with any transgression of this rule and the penalty may include disqualification after a warning.

Medical Assistance
It is imperative that runners fill in the medical information on the back of their race number. Should a runner require hospital treatment, he/she will be charged according to the hospital tariff rate. 082911 – memorise this number in the case of a medical emergency. Information relating to runners who have been admitted to the Medical Tent will be available at the GijimaAst Information Centre. More info on the stations on our separate Medical Station section on the website.

Therapeutic massages will be available on the fields from Wednesday through to Saturday to ease tense and sore muscles at a cost of R40 per session. There will be a number of rubbing stations on the route.

Finish Line
The finish line must be crossed to officially finish the race. At this point you will be timed by ChampionChip. There are no designated lanes and it is important to move through this area smartly. Each runner will receive a card, reflecting an approximate finish time (this time is unofficial). Keep this card and present it when making enquiries. The card has a tear-off strip for your free refreshments in the runners’ refreshment tent (sponsored by FRIENDLY).

Runners completing their 10th, 20th, 25th and 30th Two Oceans Ultra are requested to enter the finish area on the right-hand side.

Cut-off Time
14:00 (7 hours)

Runners who do not pass the 25 km mark in under 3 hours 07 minutes or the marathon mark (42.2 km) in under 5 hours 17 minutes will not be allowed to continue the race. ChampionChip will record runner’s split times at these km marks.

Results
Please check your provisional results on the RESULTS NOTICE BOARDS, which will be near the finish next to the GijimaAst Information Centre. Should there be any error, please report this to GijimaAst immediately. Provisional results will be on the website within 24 hours of the event.

A set of final results and ships logbook will be posted to Ultra runners after the race.
